Dr Gandhi was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Devon & Exeter hospital in 2001. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He graduated in 1986 from the University of Glasgow, with diverse elective medical school experiences ranging from The Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, to a rural health project.
Dr Gandhi sees patients with all heart conditions including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitation & heart rhythm irregularity, heart valve murmurs and high blood pressure.
Dr Gandhi’s cardiac training was in London and Southampton, Intensive training in coronary angioplasty was complemented by training in preventive cardiology & lifestyle modification . For his research on chest pain in general practice and the rapid access chest pain clinic, he received Honours for his MD thesis and was a finalist for the Young Clinical Investigator award at the American Heart Association scientific meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. He has presented research papers worldwide at scientific meetings.
Dr Gandhi undertakes a range of cardiac procedures including coronary angiography (cardiac catheterisation), coronary angioplasty with stent implantation, pacemaker implantation, DC cardioversion for atrial fibrillation, and trans-oesophageal echocardiography to assess heart valve and congenital heart conditions. He contributes to the 24/7 acute heart attack primary angioplasty service.
Dr Gandhi also has an interest in prevention of heart disease and high blood pressure through lifestyle change, including exercise & dietary modification.
